New Year, New Look!

Hello all!

As you may or may not have noticed, this blog just got a bit of a facelift! With the 2012-2013 school year starting in just a week, I felt it was time to get this blog in order.

Last year's Psi Chi officers did an incredible job starting this blog up and providing some great information, and the new officers are looking to continue this blog and expand it to be even more informative!

Keep checking back in the following weeks for introductions to your new Psi Chi officers! Throughout the school year, this blog will provide pictures and information regarding events hosted by Psi Chi, as well as information on gaining research experience with professors, volunteer opportunities you may be interested in, and information pertaining to grad school.

We hope you find this blog informative and useful as the year goes on, and if you have any helpful suggestions or comments, don't hesitate to leave them here or on our facebook page (and while you're there, feel free to 'like' us for convenient posts about upcoming events, meetings, photos, and links to this blog)!

Hopefully, you've all had a wonderful summer and are ready to make this a successful year!

Graduating?

Graduation is fast approaching - it is less than 3 weeks away!! Can you believe it? If you haven't already done so, it is time to order your Psi Chi cords and stoles. Check out the Psi Chi Merchandise page for Graduation Regalia:

http://merchandise.psichi.org/graduation-regalia.html

There is still time to order and get your regalia in time for graduation on April 29 but you have to act soon if you want to represent Psi Chi. Here is a blurb about shipping from Psi Chi:

When will my order be filled?
We know that it is important for you to receive merchandise in a timely manner and always strive to get orders out as quickly as possible. The Central Office staff tries to process orders within 3 days or less of receipt during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. However, if you need your items in less than 15 business days, you need to purchase expedited delivery to ensure on your items arrive on time.

Who is graduating this year? Comment on this post :)

2012 Relay For Life of University of Michigan Flint | Relay For Life

2012 Relay For Life of University of Michigan Flint | Relay For Life

Above is a link for Psi Chi's team page for Relay for Life. Please donate some money or join our team. We need all the help we can get.

University of Michigan - Flint's Relay will be held Friday March 23, 2012 (starting at 10am) through Saturday March 24, 2012 (ends at 10am). Right now Psi Chi cannot get a 'campsite' or participate in the event the full 24 hours due to prior commitments or scheduling conflicts of participating members. We need more help! Please join our team and contact Psi Chi secretary Jacquelyn McGlinchey (Jackie) via email - jshaymcg@umflint.edu - if you are able to participate the day of the event. In order to have a Relay team at the event the entire time, we really need people to take some shifts Friday during the day (10am to 6pm - any amount of time you can give) and would like to have enough participation to have at least 2 people (one to participate in the activities and one to be at our campsite) representing Psi Chi throughout the event.

Psi Chi is still raising money for Relay for Life, even if we cannot be at the event the full 24 hours (if we cannot get enough participants). Please donate on our Relay page or stop by our table in UCEN on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 11am - 3pm. There you can purchase Relay feet for only $1 or a Luminaria to decorate in honor of a loved one for $10. We also have a contest going for anyone who donates - enter to win a whole lot of gumballs (great for studying or exams - chewing helps keep you alert). Check it out!!

Hello & Welcome

Hello and welcome to the UM-Flint Psi Chi Blog. The purpose of this blog is to provide useful information and updates on the activities of Psi Chi in order to keep all psychology students at UM-Flint informed and promote involvement, not only in Psi Chi, but also in the department, university activities, and the local community. Please take a look around and visit often for updates. Comments and ideas are extremely welcome, and it is hoped that this blog will eventually include guest bloggers and submissions from students.

Psi Chi Blogger:
Right now the Psi Chi blogger is Psi Chi Secretary, Jackie.

I am in my last year at UM-Flint and a psychology and English major. I am interested in becoming a mental health counselor and eventually a professor (hopefully) because I love being on a college campus. I have wanted to start a Psi Chi blog since the beginning of the academic year but of course finding time to write something other than for school is sometimes difficult. I feel a blog, especially with contributions from many people, will be a good way to keep people informed about what is going on in Psi Chi and also about the requirements for a psychology degree at UM-Flint and challenges we all face during our time here and after graduation. Some of my ideas for this blog are:
Post information on what is going on with Psi Chi and in the psychology department.

To interview all psychology professors and teachers to learn about their grad school experiences and specialty.

To interview students about psychology classes, projects, papers, internships, and volunteer experiences.

To interview alumni about their experiences getting into grad school or getting a job after graduation.

Please contact me, jshaymcg@umflint.edu,  if you have any ideas or something you would like to contribute to the blog.
